Welcome to Duct Tape and a Prayer, a World of Warcraft blog largely focused on, but not limited to, healing as a Discipline priest. Please take a moment and subscribe to my RSS feed here.

You should be aware that this blog has a comment policy. The bottom line is this: be respectful. You don't have to agree with me, but if you disagree, keep it civil and back it up with facts and logic. Keep that in mind and we'll get along just fine!

If you’d like to get the Winter Veil achievement but haven’t started the Skyguard/Ogri’la rep grind yet, good news: you don’t have to in order to get Fa-la-la-la-Ogri'la. You can go straight to Ogri’la and start a very brief chain there to open up “Bomb Them Again”, which is the quest you need for the achievement.

  • At Ogri’la, pick up “The Crystals” from Chu’a'lor. (Gather 5 Apexis Shards and return to Chu’a'lor. Skip the follow-up.)
  • Still at Ogri’la, pick up “Our Boy Wants To Be A Skyguard” from Torkus. (Gather 10 Shards, go to the Forge Camp to the south and trade them for an Unstable Flask of the Beast, return to Torkus. Don’t get the follow-up.)
  • Still at Ogri’la, pick up “The Skyguard Outpost from Chu’a'lor. (Report to Sky Commander Keller at the Skyguard Outpost.)
  • At the Skyguard Outpost, pick up “Bombing Run” from Sky Sergeant Vanderlip. (Use the provided bombs to destroy 15 stacks of Fel Cannonballs at the Forge Camps to the north or south, then return to Vanderlip.)
  • At the Skyguard Outpost, pick up “Bomb Them Again” from Sky Sergeant Vanderlip. (Use the provided bombs to destroy 15 more cannonball stacks.) This is the quest you need for the achievement. The only time you need to have the Holly buff is when you are turning the quest in! There is no need to have it on when you pick the quest up or while you’re doing the bombing run itself.

Hope that’s helpful! My Death Knight went from never having set foot in Blade’s Edge to having the achievement in about half an hour this morning, and most of that was grinding for Apexis Shards.

Hm, interesting to know! That was one of the quests I was a little dubious about when planning out everything to get my own DK the title… however, it turns out that I can’t be summoned into the airship for the last Brother for “Bros before Ho Ho Hos” (since I am not 77 and can’t fly and it isn’t feasible that I will level THAT far before the holiday’s over). So… I’m not pleased about all the easy Alliance ones and the Horde only has three, but I cannot reach the third one :/

@Anea, if your DK is Horde, you can get on the airship if you’re lower than 77, unless they’ve changed things since last year; it’s very sneaky but it works. It’s much easier if you have a friend who does have a flying mount.

It happens that there is a very small spot in the mountains near Sindragosa’s Fall – you’ll need to do a little climbing and precision falling to get to it. I’ll try and find the coordinates for you – where, if you die there, a small section of the Horde airship is within your rez distance during its pathing.

So first: get your hands on a couple Dark Runes; they’ll knock 600-1000 health off. Get to that point in the mountains, have your friend duel you down to as little health as you can manage, and then pop a Dark Rune. This will kill you, so you’ll probably want to be in trash gear or naked when you do it.

When you get back to your corpse, don’t rez; instead, fly as far straight up as you can and still have the rez indicator on. Eventually the airship will fly around to you and you’ll be above one of the gunnery platforms. (You may want to let it pass once to gauge where you need to be, and then go make a sandwich until it comes back.) When the airship gets under you, rez and you’ll drop to the gunnery platform, from which point you can run up to the Brother and get your achievement. :)

I’ll see if I can hunt down the coordinates of that spot in Sindragosa’s Fall for you!

@Anea, here are the spots that work best: 64.1,27.1 and 73.0,27.1.

Post this in the Wowhead comments for the achievement? People will absolutely love you for it.
